Vesuvius – 24×48

A truly magnetic, yet tortured visualization of the famous Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79 AD.  In one of the most catastrophic and famous eruptions in history, the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum on the coast of the Bay of Naples, Italy were buried in feet of pyroclastic flow.  This piece embodies the intensity of such volcanic activity with it’s fierce use of reds and oranges, scorched with smoky bronzes and blacks.  The board has been precisely seared with flame, scarring it with cracks and craggy edges to further bring depth into this piece.
