Messier – 24×48

Messier 78, a reflection nebula in the Orion Constellation was first discovered in 1780 individually by both Charles Messier and Pierre Méchain.  A relatively close nebula at only 1,600 light years away, it can be seen with by the amateur astronomer with small telescopes.  This large piece, inspired by one of the closest nebula above us, brings a piece of the heavens into the room. The sweeping black and bronze flows through the burnt reds and oranges, creating the nebula effect from which it was inspired.
